Please do recommend me an online course on opera singing. I know it is almost impossible to be perfect in learning online. But living here in the Maldives, which is a tiny country with no access to teachers I am desperately in need for this advice online. Regards.
Hi Ishag, I’ve always wanted to visit the Maldives, it looks like a beautiful paradise
You can take a look at the offer for my opera singing course here:

Let me know if you have any more questions or if there’s anything I can do for you, I’m here to help.
Hi Vic, ive studied more or less 7 yrs, with diferent techniques, teachers and so on, but even being from new york and having a place like the met around the corner so to speak i have never been able to overcome my number one problem which has frustrated any chance of an operatic career: how do i overcome and deal with stage fright???
i now am living in Ecuador and see that chance far from happening even at my 41 yr of age, if you have any suggestions, i’m all ears.
take care and thx for everything.
Hi Frank,
It sounds like your stage fright has left you feeling pretty frustrated.
First…A little understanding is needed.
Imagine yourself 20,000 years ago, living a nomadic life in a tribe of about 100 people. You hunt animals, you gather nuts and fruit, and life is a simple struggle for survival.
Here’s the important part: IF you do or say something in your tribe that makes them think you may jeopardize their chances of survival and procreation, you may be killed by the tribe…or ostracized from it, which is basically a death sentence in this situation because you’d have to fend for yourself in the wild.
Even though NOW it’s 2013, our animal brains are still responding to the perceived threats of 20,000+ years ago. So your stage fright is not only natural, it means that you are an emotionally healthy man. So don’t fight it. Accept it. It’s perfectly normal.
If you want to *get over* stage fright, there are 3 easy things you can do starting right now.
1. Show up
Woody Allen said 80% of success is just showing up. And Woody is the most nervous, neurotic dude you’ve ever seen…
It’s the same thing in the world of dating. If you don’t show up in the land of women, introduce yourself and make your play for her, you will never get the girl. Yeah, you’re nervous, you don’t know what to say, but you’re THERE…at least you showed up, and you’ll be surprised at the resourcefulness you find inside you if you just stand on the earth with all the strength you have right now.
2. Practice awareness
The most common reaction when you’re faced with a stressful, anxiety-producing situation is to run away from the feeling, escape the situation and dull your awareness so you don’t have to face it in its full intensity.
Do just the opposite…
Make yourself TOTALLY aware of where you are, the eyes looking at you, the feeling in your stomach like you’re going to throw up, your legs wobbling underneath you…look this whole terrifying situation right in the eye.
Your awareness is curative. Whatever you’re feeling, feel it totally, never run from it. There’s no way around – only THROUGH…
Finally…
3. Be well prepared
The better you prepare and practice your music and the other aspects of your performance, the better you’ll do. Simple.
I didn’t receive any confirmation mail for 2 lesson
hi I’m from Nairobi, Kenya. first I didn’t receive a confirmation email. 2. I really want to learn how to sing opera music, but I can’t because it’s expensive and I am using a wheelchair. Apparently, a teacher told me I cnt but I know I can so I willing to learn if you Will teach me.
Hey Vic, I was wondering if I learned from here, would it be possible to learn to sing Pie Jesu? That’s probably my favorite song, and I’ve seen guys sing it.
Thanks, in advance.
Hi Zach,
Pie Jesu is a beautiful piece. 🙂
The Sing Opera Now video lesson and ebook teach the fundamentals of operatic singing technique, not how to sing any particular song.
That’s something that takes time and you’d have to work on, preferably with a competent voice instructor.

Hi Vic,
Can the techniques you teach be applied to general singing as well as opera?
Thanks in advance,
Maddie. 😀
Vic, thank you very much for the free lesson. After teaching for 20 years in NYC Public School System, I retired to follow my first and true passion. My problem is that I, am 57 years old and not sure if I could train my vocal chords to sing professionally. What are your thought about my problem of confidence. Thank You.

Hi, Vic! I’m 15 years old and my school is doing The Phantom of the Opera for the musical this year. I’m desperately trying to get my voice suited for the role of Christine, but it’s very difficult to reach the higher notes. My operatic voice is pretty good, but the notes escape me. Any advice or maybe a link that could help me out?
